On the afternoon of December 29, 2015, Shanghai Intellectual Property Court, the Intellectual Property Law Research Committee of Shanghai Law Society and the Law School/Intellectual Property School of Tongji University jointly organized the first “Forum of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court on Judicial Protection”. The forum was attended by more than 50 persons including the full-time Vice President Shi Jixiong of Shanghai Law Society, President Lv Guoqiang of the Intellectual Property Law Research Institute of Shanghai Law Society, President Wu Xielin and Vice President Li Shulan of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court as well as leaders, experts, scholars and judges from Shanghai Law Society, Shanghai High People’s Court, Shanghai Intellectual Property Court, Beijing Intellectual Property Court, Guangzhou Intellectual Property Court, grass-roots courts of Shanghai, relevant colleges and universities and lawyer sections. The forum was presided over by the Deputy Secretary General Tang Xiaotian of Shanghai Law Society. President Wu Xilin expressed his welcome and gratitude for the guests attending the forum in his speech. Mr. Wu stated that IP cases have their unique characteristics compared with other cases in terms of trial procedures and rules of evidence, thus requiring a set of complete specialized trial procedures and rules. Only in this way can the justice become the most effective, most fundamental and most authoritative means of IP protection and can the dominant role of justice in IP protection be fully played. In the past one year, though the Court has made positive exploration in building a professional IP trial pattern, many mechanism and systems involving IP trial still required further exploration, conclusion and perfection. It is desired that, with those wise ideas and thoughts offered by experts and scholars in this forum, Shanghai Intellectual Property Court will broaden its vision in exploring professional IP case trial. Vice President Li Shulan gave the speech titled “How to Establish and Realize A New Pattern of Professional IP Trial – from the Perspective of the Professionalization Construction of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court”. The attendees made discussions on following three themes: “Scientific Design of Systems for Jurisdiction of Cases”, “Exploration and Improvement of Systems for Professional Trials”, and “Establishment of Systems for Technical Investigation and Verification of Facts”, which make contributions to further deepening and exploring the professional IP trial reform and for broadening the practice approach to professional trial in IP cases. Shanghai Intellectual Property Court will hold the forum once every year and make the forum an open platform for the study and communication of IP judicial protection, trying to create a new image for Shanghai IP judicial protection.
