Vice President Li Shulan Met Michael Mangelson, Consul of the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai
On the morning of May 3rd, Michael Mangelson, Consul of the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai and Intellectual Property Officer, visited our court. Vice President Li Shulan received the guest and Presiding Judge of No. 1 Intellectual Property Tribunal Liu Junhua et al. participated in the interview. Consul Michael Mangelson first visited our litigation service center, courts, mediation rooms, etc. In the subsequent discussion, Consul Michael Mangelson watched our newly produced English work video and listened to Vice President Li Shulan to introduce the effective juridical protection measures taken to enhance trial efficiency, apply juridical provisional measures, increase compensation for damages, determine judicial rules, etc. and exploration and innovation made to working mechanisms including technical fact ascertaining mechanism, judicial mechanism for the convenience of people, diversified dispute settlement mechanism and judicial publicity mechanism. Vice President Li Shulan said that Shanghai Intellectual Property Court would make constant efforts in such aspects as strengthening of judicial justice, deepening of judicial reform, strengthening of team construction, strengthening of judicial exchange, and strive to become the most ideal and favored place to solve intellectual property cases in the Asia Pacific region. Consul Michael Mangelson expressed appreciation to the warm and considerate reception of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court and Vice President Li Shulan’s detailed and comprehensive introduction. Both sides had in-depth discussions on issues including distribution features of case types of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court, growth trend of the caseload, difficulties in technology secret case trial, appointment of the technical investigation officer, effect of the report on technical review opinions, trial characteristics of criminal cases relating to intellectual property, and the development orientation of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court. Vice President Li Shulan gave Consul Michael Mangelson the White Book on Judicial Protection of Intellectual Property of 2015 published in both English and Chinese and the compilation of typical cases, and said Shanghai Intellectual Property Court would strengthen communication with peers, academic institutions and international organizations in the field of intellectual property all around the world to jointly enhance the intellectual property protection level.
