Judge Chen Huizhen's Studio Looks into NextYear' Plan for Service &Sci-tech Innovation

On the morning of January 25, Chen Huizhen, a full-time member of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court (hereinafter referred to as SIPC)’s Trial Committee, went to Zhangjiang Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone Management Committee, together with some other members of Judge Chen Huizhen's Studio. They had a discussion with some members of the management committee, and reviewed and summarized all the activities carried out in the past year by Judge Chen Huizhen's Studio under the framework of cooperation between SIPC and the management committee. Then the two sides made a plan for next year's work and defined the specific tasks. Hu Wei, Director of the Technology Service Department (Intellectual Property Department) of Zhangjiang Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone Management Committee, and some others attended the discussion. In 2018, Judge Chen Huizhen's Studio visited three parks of the development zone, carried out eight legal advocacy and consultation activities and lectures, and arranged for some enterprise representatives of the development zone to attend four hearings of the court. The studio had also carried out a "trial tour" in the development zone and a "moot court" at a school. Director Hu Wei expressed gratitude to the studio for giving the enterprises in the development zone timely and effective legal advocacy service and judicial service, such as offering the analysis of some IP cases and helping out with queries. Regarding the plan for the studio's following work, the two sides reached a consensus in four aspects: Firstly, the original work content and manners will be maintained. The studio will continue to carry out the routine activities, such as free reception, on-site Q&A, invitation to hearings, and special legal advocacy, to expand the radiating scope of the studio's activities and improve the efficacy of its judicial service. Secondly, given the large number of colleges, enterprises and institutes in the development zoneand great demands for IP protection during the commercialization of their research findings, the studio will carry out special trainings and lectures on different fields to promote IP application and raise the awareness of early warning and precaution. Thirdly, the studio will pay more visits to and make more field researches at the enterprises of the development zone and the management committees of the parks to learn new business modes and related IP difficulties, so as to make its work more specific and effective. Fourthly, a two-way barrier-free communication mechanism will be established between the studio and the management committee, to allow the two sides to have timely communication and feedback on the issues found in the judicial trials and the building and management of the development zone. The mechanism will also promote the optimization of both the judicial IP protection in the development zone and the sound development of the development zone.
