To serve the businesses as the innovation subjects and help the businesses improve their comprehensivecompetitiveness regarding intellectual property rights, Zhangjiang Science City Construction and Management Office, China (Pudong) Intellectual Property Rights Protection Center and Zhangjiang High-tech Venture Service Center jointly organized the “2019 Zhangjiang Intellectual Property Rights Special Event.” Chen Huizhen, a full-time member of the Adjudgement Committee of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court (SIPC), was invited to give a lecture on intellectual property rights to more than 100 business representatives. With the topic of “Protection of Business Secrets of Enterprises,” Chen Huizhen started with the basic concepts and constituent elements of business secrets and the types of infringement. Then she went on to use the examples of the typical cases that she had handled over metal coating, chemical structure and software source, to present the current situation of judicial protection of intellectual property rights of enterprises. She also expounded on the protection of business secrets concerned by enterprises and how to safeguard such rights of them. In the end, Ms. Chen offered specific suggestions on the management of business secrets from three aspects: choosing the appropriate protection methods; adopting strict management measures; and understanding the risks of litigation on business secrets. The business representatives said that the lecture was so close to the reality of the business and so practical that it inspired them a lot for applying and managing the intellectual property rights of enterprises.

As one of the serial activities of Judge Chen Huizhen’s studio, this lecture shows our efforts to respond proactively to the needs of legal services of enterprises, extend the function of judicial trial, and provide strong judicial protection and services for creating a society where intellectual property rights are respected and improving the protection of intellectual property rights.
