To carry forward the guiding principles of the Constitution and spread the positive energy of rule of law, judges of Shanghai Intellectual Property Court recently, on the occasion of the eighth “National Constitution Day”, visited the campus of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine where they made brilliant speeches on rule of law and had an exchange with some 20 backbone scientific researchers of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

During the symposium with researchers, they had in-depth exchanges on issues including the current situation and future development of intellectual property protection, and the protection of drug patents and trade secrets. Two judges answered in simple terms the problems and puzzles researchers had in the process of patent application, patent licensing or technical cooperation, and marketization of research results through law interpretation and theoretical analysis, giving the researchers a deeper understanding of intellectual property law.

The researchers on the symposium said that they gained a lot from the symposium, solved many puzzles, better understood the guiding principles of intellectual property law, and figured out a way to deal with subsequent issues concerning intellectual property creation, application and protection.

Innovation is fundamental to scientific research institutions. Scientific and technological innovation cannot do without intellectual property protection. The visit to the campus, which gave full play to the legal expertise of the court, provides legal support for innovation-driven development, achievement commercialization, and socialization in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, does practical things and solves difficulties for scientific research institutions, and convoys scientific and technological innovation with law.
